Congratulations to the Shaw Family Pioneer Awardees!
Dr. Alexa Freeman and Dr. Jane Joy Thomas were selected as the recipients of the 2024 Shaw Family Pioneer Awards. These awards provide funding for sex-inclusive research, focusing on sex-based mechanisms and determinants of health and disease. This year, the Center for Reproductive Science is partnering with the Potocsnak Longevity Institute to support projects that focus on sex differences and aging. Studies confirm that men and women experience biological aging differently. The partnership between CRS and PLI will explore these differences and together we will make an impact towards expanding and improving the human lifespan.
This year's recipients are:
Alexa Freeman, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Preventative Medicine
Project Title: "Sex-specific effects of placental aging on adverse pregnancy outcomes”
Jane Joy Thomas, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, Department of Medicine
Project Title: “Age-dependent molecular determinants of skeletal health in male and female mice”
